Dr. McGovern grew up in the town of Escanaba
in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and obtained

University in Houghton, Michigan. He graduated
from Mayo Medical School in Rochester, Minnesota
and entered the United States Army for eight
years. While in the Army, he worked in defensive
biological warfare research at Fort Detrick,
Maryland, completed a dermatology residency
at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Aurora,

Fort Riley, Kansas for two years. After his

Mohs surgery provides
the highest cure rate while removing the least
amount of normal skin for the most common
skin cancers (basal cell carcinoma and squamous
cell carcinoma). As of January 2008, he has
performed Mohs surgery on over 6500 skin cancers
located primarily on the face. He repairs
a significant majority of the defects in the
office, while the remainder of wounds heal
on their own or are repaired by colleagues
in plastic surgery.
Dr. McGovern has
written numerous book chapters, articles,
and editorials and has given oral presentations
on various aspects of skin disease. His special
interests are the diagnosis and treatment
of skin cancer and botanical dermatology.
Dr. McGovern is a fellow of the American College
of Mohs Surgery and has practiced dermatology
and Mohs surgery at Fort Wayne Dermatology
PC since 2000 and became a co-owner of Fort
Wayne Dermatology Consultants, Inc. in 2003.
He lives in Fort Wayne with his wife Sally
and their seven children. His hobbies include
